Organic vegetables

Organic Vegetables

I frequently tell my students that they need to eat vegetables to keep healthy, after all you can't tell your children in the future to eat their vegetables if you don't eat them yourself, this is very hypocritical.

Why do children think their vegetables are so horrid?

Tasteless, insipid, no flavour.
Well if that's what the children think, I wonder if it is because the vegetables they are eating have been bred for speed, not flavour.
I've been growing my own vegetables organically for as long as I remember, they are misshapen, and may not look pretty, but they are so amazing, full of flavour, and I know that there is nothing horrid sprayed on them, and if the family want to graze from the garden, the vegetables can simply be brushed off and don't need washing and peeling.

There are several potential benefits to eating organic vegetables for your gut health.
Here are a few:
  • Lower levels of pesticides: Organic vegetables are grown without the use of synthetic pesticides, which can be harmful to the beneficial bacteria that live in your gut.
  • Higher levels of nutrients: Some studies have shown that organic vegetables may contain higher levels of certain nutrients, such as antioxidants, which can support gut health.
  • Greater variety of bacteria: By eating a diverse range of vegetables, you may be exposed to a greater variety of beneficial bacteria, which can help to support a healthy gut microbiome.
  • Fewer additives: Organic vegetables are less likely to contain additives, such as preservatives, that may be harmful to your gut.
The health of your gut can affect your mental health because the bacteria in your gut make chemicals that help with mood and the gut talks to the brain through special pathways. Imbalances in the gut's bacteria can cause problems with these pathways and lead to mental health issues like anxiety and depression. The gut also has its own nervous system that controls its muscles and can affect how we feel emotionally.

Some further links to investigate.

Why organic is better for your gut? - mental health is also linked to the health of your gut
